Based on a very old recipe used in the days of smuggling on the Spanish border, the Ginjinha de Marvão was honoured with the highest rating in the Great Taste, the world's largest blind tasting food and beverage award. According to the competition's experts, it has a "pleasantly rich aroma, smooth and silky texture, with a good balance between acidity and sweetness".

With limited production, it is made with sour cherries grown in the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park and a high quality brandy.
